Why We Are Changing Our Name (And What It Means For You)

Solomon and the Beatles both said it: “To everything, there is a season…”

It seems like things are constantly changing. Small business owners are more aware of that truth than probably any other group on the planet.

As a CPA firm serving industries including retail, manufacturing, agriculture, and non-profit organizations over the past 40+ years, we’ve walked alongside many companies as they experienced all types of changes.

Now, it’s our turn.

CRS CPA has always been the kind of accounting firm that our clients could expect “more” from. We do more than taxes. We provide a wide range of services that help our customers grow their businesses, and we’re growing in exciting ways.

With that in mind, the firm you’ve known as “Cowart, Reese, & Sargent” is rebranding to “CRS CPA.”

Why Are We Changing Our Name?

There are 2 essential reasons that we felt the need to update our company name:

  1. We wanted to avoid the fate of so many firms like ours that have to rebrand every single time a member joins or leaves the group. We are so thankful for the talented Principals that make up the core of our company and wanted our name to remain constant regardless of who is serving our customers as the years go on.

(Besides, calling ourselves “Sargent, Baker, Enoch, Paschall, Anderson, Geter, Stone, and Reese” is just too hard to say all the time.)
  2. Removing our names keeps the focus on you. Our mission has always been (and will continue to be) proactively serving our clients with compassion, integrity, excellence, professionalism, and intentionality. What we do is about you, the customer, not whose name is on the letterhead.

Is Anything Else Changing?

No. We are the same firm with the same people. All we are doing is simplifying and modernizing our company name.

  • There are no new owners.
  • We aren’t selling the company.
  • We aren’t merging with anyone new.

Why Did We Choose “CRS CPA”?

We have internally referred to ourselves as “CRS” for a long time. Formally making this part of our name not only minimizes confusion and tangibly solidifies our brand and culture, but it also serves as a nod to our rich heritage.

Our story began back in 1975 in a residential garage. Clark Cowart and his wife Judy were just beginning their young family, and he decided that his dream of being a pilot would simply keep him away from his family too much. So he became an accountant to have a better work-life balance…something we all work hard to maintain even today.

Fancher Sargent joined Clark as an intern in 1995, and when Jack Reese merged in his firm that he bought in the 1970s in 2010, “Cowart, Reese, & Sargent” was born.

As time went on, we began to branch out into surrounding communities by partnering with accountants looking to join us and buying firms from those wanting to retire. Now, we have offices all across West Tennessee in
